Please join us for the new issue launch of Objektiv Picture Perfect part II, which will take place during Paris Photo at the art book fair POLYCOPIES from Wednesday the 7th of November until Saturday the 10th.
This year’s issues investigate, from both institutional and artistic perspectives, the practice of exhibiting camera-based art. For the autumn issue we’ve asked several writers, artists and curators to reflect on the memorable displays – whether in galleries, books, magazines, online or on billboards – that have remained in their minds. In this issue, we’ve interviewed the American artist Elle Pérez about their show Diablo at MoMA PS1. Featuring nine photographs and a collage of images and short texts, the collage was an opportunity to do something less edited, says Pérez in our interview: ‘The nine photographs are there as themselves, and the collage is a place for all the texts, thoughts and images to come together. I’ve been trying to get it all in the image, and it was good to find a way to expose a lot of the subject matter. This was a place for those images who couldn’t be viewed on their own.’
We are thrilled that Susan Bright has contributed to this issue with the essay Some Personal Thoughts on Photography Exhibitions. As she writes: 'I would like more exhibitions to feel like an encounter, one that starts a dialogue rather than shutting it down into a didactic story. These rich qualities are everywhere with photography, its how they are harnessed in exhibition form that is the challenge.'
We’re also presenting other Norwegian publications at the fair by Sveinn Fannar Jóhannsson and Mariken Kramer among others, and we've invited Fotogalleriet Oslo and Henie Onstad to present their latest publications. Maria Pasenau will represent Fotogalleriet with her brand new book Wiht Kind Regrets Pasenau. From Henie Onstad you can have a closer look at Still Timeby Dag Alveng and Torbjørn Rødland: Sasquatch Century.
