ABOUT

  • Founded in 2009 by Nina Strand, Objektiv Press began as a bi-annual journal, with Ida Kierulf and Susanne Østby Sæther joining her on the original editorial board. From 2016 Lucas Blalock and Brian Sholis have contributed to its evolving editorial direction. Since 2020, Objektiv Press has focused on essay publications on camera-based art, and the Afterimage series on our webjournal.

The essay series is available at Librairie Yvon Lambert in Paris, Printed Matter in New York, and select locations like Tronsmo, Torpedo, Bastardbok, and Tekstallmenningen in Norway, with worldwide distribution through Antenne Books.

  • In 2020, Objektiv Press initiated a new series of works, Visual Wanderings, made especially for our online journal. We invited photographers from all over the world to create art that responded to the new situation: what does the lock-down mean for their work, what is important for them to convey, and what are their reflections on the time to come? Each photographer was asked to pick another artist to create a work and in this way, we created a visual dialogue in order to get a bigger picture of the pandemic. See some of the contributions here.

The series was supported by Fritt Ord and Bergesenstiftelsen.

  • From 2010 to 2020, Objektiv Press published a biannual journal that went on to become one of the leading publications in the field of contemporary photography. Exploring a wide range of themes, from materiality to post-photography, the journal was first published in Norwegian before transitioning to English after five years, thereby expanding its global reach.
