DIM REVELATIONS BY TORBJØRN RØDLAND

Torbjørn Rødland, Avocado, 2013.

03/04

Blanket pins might offer a temporary fix for a torn sun lounger. I drive down to Koontz Hardware in West Hollywood to find some. Passing the store’s kitchen department on my way out, an oversized avocado in glazed ceramics makes me stop and stare. That … guacamole bowl is too interesting to leave behind. Don’t ask me why. This is not a time for reflection.

There’s still a bit of direct light on the terrace when I get home. The sun lounger can wait. I chase the light calmly, exposing three color negatives while 1987 Sodom plays from iTunes inside the house. I photograph the dark avocado discharging a dotted, white fabric through its spoon hole. Then I unload the film holders, get back into the car, and drive to the Icon lab.

We are delighted to announce the launch of our new title with Torbjørn Rødland with this excerpt. Dim Revelations offers a rare and generous insight into the work of one of today's most renowned lens-based artists. Like his photographic practice, this illustrated diary operates on multiple levels — internalizing a variety of genres and voices, including theory, aphorism, criticism, poetry, and the occasional spilling of tea. Rødland has not kept a journal before or since 2013. Rødland will be signing at Librairie Yvon Lambert on June 10th, from 5 to 7 pm. Address: 14 rue des Filles du Calvaire, 75003 Paris.
